Tactile Tales – Every Surface tells a story.

At Rimi Nayak India, an integral part of our design process is the surface development with unconventional techniques. Integrating mundane objects by giving them a magical and innovative twist, we are always exploring fresh and interesting surface design possibilities. We believe that the surface development plays a key role in the overall storytelling of the garment and hence our approach to explore innovation in this department.

One of our signature surface development techniques is the exploration of thread texturing to create innovative design elements. In one of our collections, we experimented with bold typography lettering that was intricately carved out of a dense surface of threaded texturing. This gave the garments an edgy urban chic appeal with graphical lettering.

In another design exploration, we also experimented with colour graded thread texturing to recreate the backdrop of a sky with silhouettes of birds stitched over them from fabric cutouts.

Another technique which we employ frequently to create tactile surfaces on our garments is the use of embroidery with a novel twist. In a collection themed “dandelion” , we used intricate hand embroidery to recreate the dandelion flower in three dimensional form.

A similar technique was also used to create bold lettering ( referenced here: ARTCORE ) etched out from multicoloured hand embroidered french knots. The resulting design was a tactile delight in bold typography surrounded by a vivid burst of colours.

Thus our exploration of unconventional surface development techniques is a signature and often recurring theme in our collections. This is our signature design style through which we weave our narratives into our garments thereby making each one a Wearable piece of Art.
